Yes. Free pay-as-you-go users receive on a shared US number using a 7-digit inbox code printed on every outbound cover sheet. Paid plans get their own dedicated US fax number. Inbound faxes can be auto-forwarded to email, an HTTPS webhook, or another fax number.
Only the HIPAA tier is HIPAA-eligible. It ships with a signed Business Associate Agreement (BAA), AES-256 KMS-encrypted storage (isolated, per-tenant object keys), TLS 1.2+ in transit, a dedicated US fax number (no shared inbound), extended audit logs, configurable retention up to 7 years, and per-user data export for right-of-access requests. PHI may not be sent, received, or stored on Personal, Business, or pay-as-you-go. The shared inbound number with an inbox code is best-effort routing and is not HIPAA-compliant.
You need one if you want faxes to land directly in your own private inbox. Dedicated numbers require an active subscription (Personal, Business, or HIPAA). Pay-as-you-go accounts share the inbound line and rely on a 7-digit inbox code printed on every outbound cover sheet so senders can route replies back — convenient and free, but best-effort and not HIPAA-compliant.
The same as any other send: 7¢/page on PAYG, or counted against your included monthly pages on a subscription. Your account must have enough credit (or remaining quota) at the time the email arrives. If not, we reject the email and reply with an Add Credits link instead of sending a partial fax.
